This is my attempt to start a fitness journal. Last May 2010 I was about 190lbs, which was the heaviest I have ever been. I believe that I’m like most people, I never really think about my health until I feel something or think about my looks until something drastic happens.
I knew I had to do something about my weight and health when I noticed that my clothes were getting too tight for me, and decided to go to the mall to shop. Tried on some size 36 jeans (which was the size I always bought since college, I wore baggy jeans), they were now a bit tight. I also noticed that I was getting winded from walking around the mall.
This was when I decided to try to do something healthy. I was still too lazy to exercise and going on a diet hasn’t crossed my mind just yet. What I did was I took some fiber supplement, about 5 grams per day; after about a month a friend noticed that I lost some weight. This of course encouraged me to really try to loose the pounds.
When people get inspired, we tend to just start doing whatever that thing is, until we run out of steam; that, I believe is the case for most people who start an exercise and diet plan. What I did different was make sure I ease into my exercise and diet. The results will take a lot longer, but I believe that the chance of keeping the fats off forever is higher.
With easing into exercise and diet as the philosophy behind my plan, I started to simply walk every morning for roughly 2 km for the first week and added 1km after a week. As for diet, I continued with the fiber supplements, added fruits or vegetables into almost every meal; I still ate the same things I ate before I started this plan, I still love eating fried and roasted meat, white bread and white rice; I just noticed the quantity lessened. I still lost almost 40 lbs in 7 months, averaging around 1.4 lbs per week.
How did you start your exercise and diet routine?
